Please Read Our Safety Precautions
To help you maintain optimal oral health, it is recommended that you have your teeth professionally cleaned and examined every six months in addition to daily brushing and flossing at home. Your dental exams are performed for us to spot the smallest warning signs of any oral health issues, enabling us to provide treatment right away to stop more serious consequences from occurring. There are, however, parts of your mouth that are more difficult to see than others. At Neu Family Dental, we can take a close look at these harder to access spots with an intraoral camera.
What is an Intraoral Camera?
You are probably very familiar with the small metallic handheld mirror commonly used in the dental office. This mirror has allowed us to see more difficult to see areas of the mouth. The intraoral camera is a technological improvement on these handheld mirrors. An intraoral camera is a small, handheld wand, approximately the size of a large pen, with a camera-equipped at one end. On the other end, the wand is attached to a computer. As we move the camera around in your mouth, we can see real-time images displayed on a monitor. We can also click a button and capture a still image, which allows us to take a close look at a specific area of your mouth without you having to hold your mouth open for an extended period. This helps to increase your comfort during your examination as well as ours.
Diagnosing Issues and Creating Custom Treatment Plans
With the intraoral camera, we can use specially created software that allows us to take an even closer look at different areas of your mouth. After taking a still image, we can zoom in on a specific area. We can even enhance the image for better clarity. As a result, we can see the smallest details of your mouth that might otherwise go undetected. With the ability to see even the smallest details, we can provide a much more accurate diagnosis and a much more effective customized treatment plan that will provide you with optimal results.
See Inside Your Mouth, Exactly What We See
Many patients who feel anxiety often experience these feelings because they cannot see what we are doing. They often feel out of control. Even if we explain everything that we are doing, this may not be enough to ease the feeling of unease. Some patients also may not believe the severity of the situation. With the intraoral camera, you can see everything that we are doing and everything that is going on in your mouth. We can easily point out trouble spots, showing you the severity of the situation. In addition to easing anxiety, the intraoral camera can also help you to understand why we are recommending certain treatments and just how important they are.
Become More Actively Involved in Your Oral Care
After taking stills with the intraoral camera, we can print them out. This allows you to go home with a reference image. This way, you can continue to monitor the health of your mouth at home. You will be better equipped to notice even the smallest changes in your mouth, allowing you to call the office as soon as you notice something different.
Digital Image Storage
Today, your dental information is stored in a computer file. This not only eliminates clutter, but it also makes it much easier for us to access different information. Any images we take with the intraoral camera can also be stored in this file for easy access. We can even access an older image to compare side by side with a newer one, which helps us to see changes in your mouth and take the appropriate action if necessary.
With an intraoral camera, we can more effectively spot issues in your mouth so that we can provide you with the best care possible. Call Neu Family Dental today at (847) 230-9143 for more information.
