What Are Dentures Made Of?

What Are The Different Types of Dentures?

Immediate dentures require prior preparation so that they are ready by the time we remove your teeth. After teeth removal, you will heal with the dentures in place.
However, since the bones and gums undergo resorption after healing after tooth removal, immediate dentures require more adjustments for a proper fit.
Conventional dentures are ready for placement eight to 12 weeks after tooth removal and require fewer adjustments than immediate dentures.
Partial dentures are usable when you have one or more natural teeth on your jaws. The denture has replacement teeth attached to a gum-colored base connected by a framework that holds it in place.
Besides filling the spaces left by missing teeth, partial dentures prevent the remaining teeth from shifting into the gap.
What Are Implant Supported Dentures?
One of the options for replacing missing teeth is implant-supported dentures consisting of dentures held in place by implants. These dentures give the benefits of dental implants at an affordable rate.
When installing implant-supported dentures, we will attach four to six titanium implants into your jawbone for support. We will give these posts time to fuse with your jawbone through osseointegration, which takes up to six months.
Afterward, we will attach your set of dentures to your jawbone. Once fixed, you cannot remove these dentures unless our professionals assist.
Can You Get Implant Supported Dentures After You've Had Dentures?
Wearing dentures requires a commitment to ensure they are in good shape. This includes removing them daily when sleeping and soaking them to prevent warping.
While many get accustomed and comfortable to a lifestyle of dentures, folks are switching to implant supported dentures over time primarily due to the comfort it provides and easy maintenance.
It is possible to get implant supported dentures after you’ve had dentures, but this will depend on certain factors about your oral and overall health.
For instance, you should have a healthy jawbone to implant the titanium posts successfully. You will experience bone resorption from wearing dentures for years.
We will examine your jawbone to ensure you have the minimum mass for a successful implant. You should also be free of gum disease and other lifestyle conditions like untreated diabetes that threaten the success of the implant.
What Are Mini Denture Implants?
At times, you may want to replace missing teeth but lack bone mass to hold traditional implants. Also, you may lack the financial capacity to undergo bone graft surgery. In such cases, mini denture implants are an ideal option.
Mini denture implants are smaller implants that enable patients to keep their dentures in place. Unlike traditional implants, the installation procedure is less invasive courtesy of their smaller anchor.
During the procedure, we will secure a screw into your jaw. The screw has a ball at the top that snaps into the denture.
Mini denture implants save you the embarrassment of denture fallouts as they secure loose dentures.
How Do I Care for My Dentures?
Both partial and full dentures require special care to keep them clean and free from stains. Good denture care and oral hygiene entails the following practices.

Rinse Dentures After Meals - After eating, you should remove your dentures and run water over them to flush food debris and loose particles. While doing this, place a towel in the sink to prevent breakage should your dentures fall accidentally.

Clean Dentures Daily - To keep your dentures clean, remove, soak and brush them with a soft-bristled brush. Dentures require a moist condition to maintain their shape. Soaking them overnight in a mild denture solution is advisable. A non-abrasive denture cleanser is also advisable to prevent plaque accumulation.

Rinse Dentures Before Wearing - Always rinse your dentures with clean water before placing them back in your mouth. Since you will soak your dentures in a denture solution, you should rinse them with clean water to flush the chemicals, which, if swallowed, can cause pain and vomiting. Cleaning your gums is also advisable using a soft-bristled toothbrush before placing the dentures.
