Everyone deserves to flaunt their best smile in public but, unfortunately, not all have the confidence to do so due to some problems regarding the appearance of their teeth.
These problems typically include things such as improperly aligned teeth, misshapen teeth, gapped teeth, discolored teeth, chipped teeth, fractures, dental bonding after braces, and crooked teeth.
As you age, your teeth are under constant assault by bacteria, and as such, they naturally become a little weaker one day at a time.
At Neu Family Dental, we believe that good oral hygiene is important to protect and prolong the life of your teeth.
However, there are times when cosmetic dentistry can help to not only enhance the appearance of your smile but also assist in protecting your teeth.
What Is Cosmetic Bonding?
Cosmetic bonding is a procedure which involves a resin that is applied to a tooth to help elevate the smile of a person.
We apply the resin-based material to the tooth with a curing light and adhesives.
This process helps to hide minor imperfections such as discoloration and chipped teeth. It can also be used to widen the appearance of teeth effectively shrinking any gaps between your teeth.
Is Cosmetic Dental Bonding Safe?
According to the American Dental Association, bonding is a safe and effective procedure that has proven to be highly effective at correction numerous dental imperfections for the last two decades. Bonding can be considered a viable option, in some instances, to treat decayed teeth, change the shape of the teeth, and to protect the tooth by covering up any holes, cracks, chips or openings.
Add in the fact that the material can also be using to enhance the brightness of your smile, and it is easy to see why cosmetic bonding is so popular today.
How Cosmetic Bonding Is Done?
Cosmetic bonding is as much of an art form as it is a science. Before any work being performed on your teeth, we will start with a thorough examination.
During the exam, we will determine if cosmetic bonding is right for you, as well as the extent of the work that needs to be done.
Next, we will identify which color combination of the resin material is best suited to match or gently enhance your smile. While most people think that going as white as possible is best, it causes an unnatural look that causes the cosmetic bonding to stick out like a sore thumb.
The next step of the process includes minor tooth abrasion.
The goal here is to gently smooth out the overall shape of the tooth while giving the resin something to cling too firmly.
This process takes anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour to complete. Once finished, we apply the resin with an adhesive and then use a curing light to harden the material.
We strongly recommend that you avoid eating or drinking anything that could potentially damage stain your teeth to prevent any type of discoloration.
You should continue to brush and floss regularly. However, it is important to do so gently. You do not want to use much force as this could affect the final result of your bonding.
